Environmental Charity,Health Charity,Educational,Charity,Mental Health Charity and General Couselling

IMPACTING positively on the welfare of the less privileged, the orphans and perhaps, the elderly requires a great deal of sincerity, love and care and most importantly, fear of God as well as to a very large extent, patient on the part of the particular individuals behind the initiative. Charity organization like Nero Global Concept, also known as non-governmental organization is inadvertently, a very important result-oriented platform through which the desired and sustainable turning around of the lives of the needy in the society can be guaranteed. To a very large extent, it is a realistic instrument designed with the aim of rendering certain free services in the area of education, financial assistance and medical services for different categories of such individuals so as to give them a sense of belonging.

The alarming rate of poverty in our society today, in addition to the undesirable circumstances that surrounds many individuals, particularly the orphans and those that are suffering from one form of perpetual health deformity or the other, calls for passionate concern by the relevant government’s authorities, corporate organizations and well meaning individuals. In advanced societies like UK, India, America and the rest of them, issues bordering on socioeconomic well-being of the less privileged are always treated with utmost priority. Although, there may be several NGOs in the world but the fact remains that not many of them keep to their conventional social responsibility of assisting the people with some challenges without attaching how much profit he or she stands to derive from it at the end of the day and this scenario strongly negates the aims and objectives of NGOs in totality. Non-Governmental Organizations are supposed to, as much as possible, put profit making agenda aside as they are established to bring the much needed succor to the people.

Today, there seems to be a wider deviation or gap between their set goals (service delivery) and their unfolding realities as over 80% of the stakeholders who are into such ventures which ought to be a vehicle to assist people with financial distress, the elderly, medical services and even educational aid to the less privileged, the orphans as well as those confronted with health deformity, have incidentally converted charity organizations to achieve their self aggrandizement, thereby running them like profit making ventures. On regular intervals, they source for financial support and other logistics from the international agencies like the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank and other donor agencies but the truth is that, most of them do not use the money to actualize the purpose for which it is given. Moreover, it is Christly clear that, few of such NGOs have genuine intention. This is obviously our situation in Nigeria and it is traced to the increasing level of poverty, which has subjected most of the Chief Executive Officers of NGOs to be as greedy as to the level of duping international organizations under the pretense of using same for the betterment of the less privileged.

Taking care of the under privileged could be carried out through diverse approaches, it is either through financial aid, provision of free health care services, free education and the rest of them.In Delta State, precisely Warri South-west Local Government Area, there is one God sent indigene of Isaba community who is so engrossed and determined to ensure that the welfare of his people, apparently the less privileged in the area are given adequate attention through her individual efforts. She is by name Oghenero M. Bikawei, a Nigerian based Deltan from Isaba and the founder,President Executive Director of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), known as Nero Global Concept, which is specifically set up to positively respond to the needs of the people with some challenges.
Moreover, the mission of the foundation is to change the lives of the less privileged children and youths, give them a better future and most especially, to ensure that children in need are not denied opportunity to harness their potentials to the fullest. The Oghenero M. Bikawei, Nero Global Concept , established in 2008 also seek for Sponsors,Partners in the area of provision of the latest technology in Education, Health, Youth Development and the provision of acceptable shelter for children in need. Oghenero M. Bikawei with his sound Christian background is not wasting time in showing sensitivity to the feelings of the under privileged and bringing her wealth of experience to bear from the Diaspora in the development of her people. In today’s society, the less privileged are often dreaded as a scourge in their environment. Many a times, they are treated by the privileged with so much disdain; making them feel they are responsible for their situation. Such treatments include: restriction of some of their rights like the right to associate, belong and contribute ideas in their immediate place of belonging. Many of them are often snubbed, ignored and avoided, perhaps to prevent a spread of their misfortune on others.

Those of them who are petty traders are not patronized irrespective of how affordable their products are, and how close, neat or receptive their stalls/business places are.

More-so, the less privileged are often victims of stigmatization, ostracization and mind-breaking policies of the privileged. They are the ones who suffer the brunt of every stringent policy made by the government. For instance, when Tricyclists were restricted from touring certain road ends, they were the ones on their foot, moving here and there to find a means of getting to their destination, whilst others were cruising on their cars.

The less privileged form the crowd of patients at General Hospital wards, government schools and other public agencies, when their privileged counterparts can afford to school and medicate abroad. They are the ones who apply for jobs daily and are being denied it, while others having the money to bribe their way are prevailing. The list of this inhumanity is endless but in order to really hit the nail on the head, George Orwell noted in his ‘Animal Farm’ that although all animals are equal, some of them are more equal than others. Likewise in this bid, some less privileged are more privileged than others.

A typical example of a less privileged man or woman is one who cannot help his/herself, and has no one to help him/her either. An example is the crippled man Jesus healed by the pool of Bethesda who confessed not having anyone to take him to take him to the pool at the stirring of the water by the Angel.

Most of our society’s less privileged fall in the category of the above-mentioned man and live at the mercy of passers-by and few well-wishers. A few of them live nowhere but, manage to crawl out of their gloom every morning to beg for alms which some of them do alongside the sales of articles like recharge cards, pure water and others, but they are not patronized. The privileged around them have refused to patronize them and their counterparts cannot either, because they have no need for these items.

Individuals need to be more interested in the less privileged in the society. It is true that organizations dealing with vulnerable people exist but, the question is how many are they, and how can these crippled, blind, deaf and dumb people approach them unaided?

Until the welfare of the less privileged is viewed as a collective responsibility, we will still find it difficult to identify with the needy around us. Individuals should therefore adopt a hospitable nature that would enable them see the needy as people who should be cared for and not ostracized. Little acts of enterprise by these less fortunate neighbors of ours should be encouraged by our patronage, to give them a sense of belonging.

Communities should also team up to help by creating centers where the homeless, vulnerable and helpless can be attended to. By so doing, people will be encouraged to volunteer help for the homes financially and in other ways. To really achieve success in this bid, outreach programmes should be organized in high-density areas to identify people who need various treatment so that they can be given appropriate attention.

In all, the aim of individuals, organizations, communities and government agencies having the zeal to help the needy should be to train the less privileged women and youths, especially in the rural areas on practical skill acquisition programmes for value re-orientation, wealth creation, self-reliance, crime reduction and sustainable living in view of the global economic meltdown and, to educate, train and provide a home for the orphans, destitute and street girls in our society to counsel, train and bring them back to the society as signs of hope and direction to others in similar situations everywhere.

Finally, the less privileged are eligible members of the society deserving equal rights and privileges enjoyed by the privileged hence, they should be given that sense of belonging deserving of an origin of a particular place.
